Thankyou very much Selina. Looks like the poor lady led a wretched existence in the last half of her life.  I have applied for her records now, hopefully the wait will not be too long.

Finally , a reply from the record office! I am a little disappointed however. I wasn't expecting census records but something more personal . Thankyou ciderdrinker, janan and selina for all your help.                                                               sue

Do her asylum records no longer exist then? That's a great shame. The records I have for my great grandfather are not extensive but they are certainly personal.

That's odd. I wonder who does keep them ??? Or have they been lost? great shame if that is the case.

The lady didn't know who keeps them . Which seemed strange for a record office .

Hi,

I don't think what you have been told is correct -  not according to the Cambs County Council Archive Website.

Apparently there is, quote, "an extensive, but as yet unlisted, collection of records, which include detailed patient records including admission registers, 1856-1949" etc., etc.

See
http://www.rootschat.com/links/0wsp/

Perhaps have another go at contacting them but you will probably have to pay for the research.

Thankyou very much Selina , I was wondering whether the lady was a new employee as I wasn't familiar with her name , so possibly she didn't know . I will ring them on Monday.                                  sue
