John LANE in Hulme in 1911
« on: Sunday 29 September 13 18:30 BST (UK) »
In 1911 John LANE is listed at 169 York Street, Hulme, South Manchester, as an iron miller aged 22 and single; he is listed as a boarder, born Earlestown, Lancashire.

I have his birth certificate (no father listed) born as John Kelly LANE (son of Hannah)

Trying to find his marriage or death entry is proving to be a struggle as it seems he may have dropped the "kelly" bit

Do you have a John LANE in your tree who married after 1911 in the Manchester area?

Would you be willing to share the marriage details so I can eliminate them from the long list of possibles - thank you!

 :-\

so far
(update in blue):

X Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1911
LANE   John   to ANDERSON Sarah Elizabeth at Newton Heath, St. Wilfrid
(Father as Matthew Lane and John born abt 1880, again not the right one) X

X Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1914
LANE John   to (EDWARDS nee MAYO) Elizabeth at Chorlton-on-Medlock Reg Office or Reg Attended
(an ancestry tree has this John born c1873, so again no the right one) X

X Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1917
LANE   John   to COLES   Florence at Victoria Park, St. Chrysostom
(Florence later became Mrs Entwistle and her LANE daughters appear to have moved to USA or Canada)
(Father as John Lane, John aged 30 and occupation as manager, so guessing not this one either)
X

X Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1919
LANE   John   to ISAAC   Gertrude at Chorlton-on-Medlock Register Office or Registar Attended
(found burials online in the 1930s for these two possibly, age out so not the one I'm looking for) X

? Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1920
LANE John   to WESTON nee CROUCHER    Ethel Maud Chorlton-on-Med Reg Office or Reg Attended
(a WESTON daughter born 1912 and a LANE daughter born 1921 of Ethel Maud Elizabeth nee CROUCHER) ?

Interesting find but not related to mine!

"Historically the area known as Victoria Park was from 1850 included in the parish of St James, Birch, and remained so until 1878, when the new parish was created from parts of the parish of St James and others.

In 1836, a unique enterprise was undertaken by Richard Lane and Partners, architects, to establish a residential area to the east of Wilmslow Road, an "estate" of substantial houses in spacious grounds, where prosperous business and professional families could live. Lane was noted for his public work in the neo-classical style, for example his Chorlton on Medlock Town Hall. The facade of this building remains on the Manchester Metropolitan University All Saints Campus and now forms part of the Mabel Tylecote Building."

thanks for that but I wonder if that is the first one on the list

Birth
Mar 1887
LANE    John Kirkland        Meriden 6d 419
(bapt 29 Dec 1886 at Over Whitacre, son of John George and Mary Elizabeth Lane)
(1911 in Southwell, Nottinghamshire)
(John Kirkland Lane, d. 04 Aug 1958 in Nottinghamshire, England)

Birth
Jun 1888
LANE    John Kelly        Warrington 8c 176

also my John (Kelly) Lane would have been ripe to send to war in 1914 - wondering if that is how he met his end instead? ;-(

best wishes and thanks again

Not all dates of births are correct on the 1939 register. Both my in-laws parents & grandparents are wrong on it.

I’ve finally found him!!  ;D

1921 Barrow in Furness
John Lane 1888 Earlestown (Engineers Miller)
Annie Lane 1896 Barrow in Furness
Vera Lane 1918 Earlestown
John Lane 1919 Barrow in Furness

Entered them on my tree and got hints to burials in Canada from findagrave

John Lane 1888 - 1967
Annie Lane 1896 - 1982
Vera Lane 1918 - 1997

Now what happened to John Lane (junior) ???
