thanks for all those extras - fleshing out a much more detailed story now

tried ancestry for army records but nothing matches (don't know how records differ from those on  FindMyPast)

Marriages Dec 1886
PLIMMER    Bilhah        Birmingham    6d   221
Yale    Thomas        Birmingham    6d   221

I wish they'd make up their minds what name they were using lol

no I surrender (lol) I can't find him in 1871 or 1891

if he was in an institution and only with an initial and goodness knows what surname, I don't think I'll find him if he was on the run either, especially if he didn't want to be found lol  :-[

He & his brother were probably farmed out while Bella visited the Dodwells in 1871.
If you can coax his army records out of Cathy that should just about do it.

hi - wow - what a find!!!

Reuben does sound a most colourful character that I have ever stumbled across  ;D

I tried researching the Reuban H J Dodwell this morning and his family in case that brought anything to light but sadly they all proved just as tricky to track down after the 1871 census, so I abandoned the idea - a daughter Ann Selina Dodwell appeared to change her name to Annie Beatrice (and her age) and looks like she  "ran off" with a William Kemp - got my self in knots and the father appears to have disappeared too!

thanks again for posting and any snippets on Reuben Henry Plimmer (or however he calls himself) most welcome!  8) ;)

Hi
I came across this post whilst researching the name Abilla Plimmer (as it is so unusual) as they were listed as a 'visitor' living with my relatives when researching my family tree.

Annie Beatrice isnt Ann Selina .... Annie Beatrice was my Great grandmother.  She is the daughter of Emmaline Ward (Nee Dodwell) who was sister to Ann Selina, daughter of Reuben and Louisa.

Hope this helps with your search :)

hello

thanks for posting

it's odd ancestry has this birth entry (my friend thought it was Bilhah, but I don't think it is):
Name   B? Horton
Registration Year   1846
Registration Quarter   Apr-May-Jun
Registration district   Walsall
Parishes for this Registration District   Walsall
Inferred County   Staffordshire
Volume   17
Page   282

(The new GRO search engine shows (male) Butler Horton for this entry- oh well keep searching!)

Isabella (or) Bilhah (or) Bella (Horton (or) Plimmer) (later Yale):
daughter of Mary Ann Horton (later Plimmer)
wife of Thomas Yale
mother of:
William Reuban Henry Dodwell Plimmer (Joiner)
William Henry (or) Billy Plimmer (the boxer)
George Frederick Plimmer (Boot & Shoe Repairer)
John (or) Jack Plimmer (another boxer)
Louisa Plimmer (later Rudge)

I still have not found her entry in the 1881 census as yet.

1851 as Abbah Hoston
1861 as Billiak Plummer
1871 as Abilla Plimmer
1881 as ?
1891 as Abebetar Plimmer
1901 as Bella Plimmer
1911 as Bella Gale
(per ancestry)

so confusing  :o

also:
DODWELL, Ann  Selina     (mother: PARLOUR)
GRO Reference: 1856  D Quarter in BIRMINGHAM  Volume 06D  Page 168
