Bedwellty (Aberbargoed) on 1901 census
« on: Friday 04 October 13 08:23 BST (UK) »
racking my brain to try and do an address search no the 1901 census in Aberbargoed.  Using FindMyPast, but it doesn't like anything I've tried so far.  The Street doesn't come up at all, so I tried a general Aberbargoed search ... it doesn't like Aberbargoed, Bedwellty, Rock Bedwellty, Pont Aberbargoed ..... If anyone could suggest anything else, that would be good .. I am trying to find 5 Elm Street, and who was living there .... there must be an easier way .....
Many Thanks

I might be wrong here but it doesn't look like Elm Street came into being until after 1901?

actually, you could very well be right - and I don't know why I didn't think of that!!  TyFry Farm is still shown on the 1901 census too ... and it doesn't help that Bedwellty is missing an "L" and spelt Bedwelty .... thanks for you help :)

My grandparents and their families were in Bedwel(l)ty, too!

So I am well aware of the problems in spelling! ::)

The mines took off about that time, so lots of roads and houses being built.

I've got the house deeds somewhere - I could check those - they'd help :)

Don't get me started on the spelling errors .... and knowing that they send a lot of the transcriptions offshore, just doesn't make ANY sense ... especially the little rural Welsh villages - it's insane !!!

I know my Great Grandparents were the first to live in the house, but I'd never really taken much notice of when it was actually built ... doh !!

Looking at Old Maps 1901, there weren't many houses in Aberbargoed, it looks as if Commercial Street wasn't even there. Ten years later it appears to be the Tucker family at No 5, and no wonder searchers can't find things, that particular entry has transcriptions that have no resemblance to what is written on the document.

it's the Tucker family I was looking at .. I have them elsewhere in 1901, but wondered who was at this house then (but it wasnt there) ...

There were a family of Trotman's living in Cwrt Coch Street - any relation ?

Not sure of the Trotmans in Aberbargoed, I haven't tried any research of descendants of my Great grandfathers family yet, Rowley
