William Ernest Denison [1866-1926] of Halifax *COMPLETED*
« on: Friday 04 October 13 12:17 BST (UK) »
On my Calderdale Companion website, at

www.calderdalecompanion.co.uk/d.html#d24

I have an entry which summarises what I know about William Ernest Denison [1866-1926] who (amongst other things) was on the staff of the Halifax Evening Courier and had an amateur radio station – known as 2KD.  He had a son William Gordon [b 1933].

I have now come across a 1922 newspaper reference to a Percy Denison, also an amateur radio enthusiast with a call sign 2KD.

FreeBMD shows a Percy Denison born in Halifax [1895].  Incidentally, the 1922 report tells of a radio experiment conducted by Percy and a James Reginald Clay [also born in 1895].

Are there any researchers of the Denison family who can help me link Percy to William Ernest?

Thanks in advance

Malcolm

Hi Malcolm,

I don`t think he would have had a son William Gordon born in 1933 if he died in 1926  ;D  William Gordon appears to be the son of George Herbert Denison and his wife Olive (nee Hunter).  When George married Olive in 1927 the witnesses were Percival  ::) Denison, Amy S Denison and a Robert Hunter. Georges occupation was Wireless Engineer.  It looks as though Percy may have changed his name to Percival.

William Ernest married Amy Starkey Ryder at St. Saviour, Chorlton on Medlock on 1st March 1894.

I think William Gordon was the son of George Herbert (age 4 1911 census)

Thanks to you both.  That resolves the problem perfectly.  I was about to remove the DOB for William Gordon, but now he's dropped by a generation it all makes sense.

Thanks again for taking the time and trouble to respond.

I sometimes think I should subscribe to Ancestry to fill in such gaps on my website for myself, but there's only so much expense I can bear pro bono publico, so I have to rely on people like yourselves ... I suppose I could start to charge people for using my website!

Thanks again

Hi I realise this is an old thread.. but the Percy Denison you are talking about is/was my grandfather ..and i have his family tree. I would be very interested to speak to anyone with an interest in this family.
