Tyn y Coed Deganwy
« on: Friday 04 October 13 13:42 BST (UK) »
Hi does anyone know if the convalescent home Tyn y Coed  Deganwy still exists? My mum went therefrom Birmingham in about 1945 I would love to know why?. I think the home was bought by contributions from the general public of Birmingham in 1906 I would like to know how long it operated and  was it only used by patients from Birmingham? Particularly what was the usual reason for people going there?  Is it possible it was used for women suffering  post natal depression?

There's a bit  about    it  on  here ,pages  19 and 20      If I'm reading correctly   Tyn y Coed  was for  men  ,  and another    place   nearby  was  for  women  ,  The  place  itself  may still  be  there , but  under a  different  name  , I  haven't  been  in that  area  for quite a while !

Hi - you'll see quite a lot about it by Googling full name, including one question asking if it was still

open. The answer was no, though the body that ran it still existed then (2005) and may have

records.

Many thanks So it looks like mum was at Marle Hall not tyn y Coed that link is really interesting. It doesn't look like the converlecent homes were for any specific illnesses I wonder if it will be possible to find out why mum went there with a young child and a very loving husband there must have been a good reason to make her go away in the days when comunication would have been by post not even telephone she must have felt cut off from Dad and me.

Did you see the question from someone in a similar position to you - wanting to know about a

relative who spent some time there - being advised to try the Birmingham Hospitals Saturday

Fund for possible records?

There's some information (and photographs) of Tyn-y-Coed and Marle Hall here:  http://threetownsforum.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=872.0
and here:
http://birminghamhistory.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=22372

Both buildings were used as convalescant homes for 'the ill people of Birmingham'.  The second link mentions a man who was at Tan-y-Coed recuperating after an appendicitis.

Hi,

Sorry to resurrect an old thread.  I have been given access to an old photo of what looks to me like Tyn-Y-Coed Convalescent home in Deganwy.  The back of the photo states "Apollo Photo's, Deganwy 83528"

The photo is a group of between 30-40 people, mostly men stood up, and at the front there are 4 women dressed like nurses sat down to me.  My great-grandfather George Wilfred Wood is sat in the middle of them on the front row.  I estimate the photo to be late 50's or very early 60's.

My great grandfather lived in Blackheath, near Birmingham, West Midlands.

I'd love to attach a photo, but the file is too big.

I'm in the middle of finding out more about the home.

Tyn y Coed, Llanrhos, was a convalescent home, and was bought by Robinson Research around the late 70's. It is a listed building, follow this link : https://britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/300003331-tyn-y-coed-conwy#.X0rbiFVKi00
