Hi Laura

Belated reply, but my Great Grandfather Alderman George Fenn lived at 22 Burlington Road. I have a photo of the house circa 1912

Edwin Brook
lived at 1 Burlington Road at least from 1869- 1873 (Kelly's directories)
in the 1871 census he is listed as a retired grocer
1861 census he lived 3 King street were he was a grocer,
1851 King Street, with chelton and his mother hannah (age 76 born henley) he was also listed as a tea-dealer in the 1858 Post Office directory.
i think he has a connection with my family tree but i haven't quite found the link yet:-)
especially as i now note his mother Hannah was born in henley.........

Hi Margaret
Laura's Mum here - we're both researching the history of the house.
Thanks for the info on Edwin Brook.  It agrees with what I've found.  I've been away recently but when I get a moment I'll email you with the rest of what we've found out.

I quote from 'Early Country Motoring, cars and motorcycles in Suffolk 1896-1940 (don't worry about copyright, my husband wrote it and I have permission to quote).

''Two days later Ipswich witnessed its first motorised vehicle when Charles Berners of Woolverstone Park drove his De Dion powered tricycle into town to visit Mr Popplewell's cycle shop in the Woodbridge Road.  Mr Berners had bought his machine in Paris several months earlier, but had only been able to use it in his private grounds  until the new Act was introduced . . . . .''

Mr Popplewell later sold motor vehicles and sold Austin 7s for GBP 140

Is this your Mr Popplewell ?

Suffolk Mawther and her boy John
Every time I find an ancestor,
I have to find two more!

SUFFOLK - Pendle, Stygall, Pipe, Fruer, Bridges, Fisk, Bellamy, Sparham - all link to  Framlingham
DERBY - Bridges and Frost (originally Framlingham/Parham)
NOTTINGHAM - Lambert & Selby
BERKSHIRE/then Hammersmith LDN - Fulker
LDN/MDX - Murray, Clancy, Broker, Hoskins, Marsden, Wilson, Sale

GGfather Michael Wilson born Cork, lived Fulham London - moved to Boston USA 1889, what happened next?

Hello

Thank you for this - I don't know if it is our Popplewell or not as I think there were at least two families living in Ipswich at this time. I will have a look through my info and get back to you

Thanks

Hi Laura,

Are you still researching these people?  If so I think I might have some info on Herbert STROFTON.

Best wishes,

Nick
