Patterson
« on: Monday 07 October 13 18:33 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find the maiden names of the parents of a Margaret Patterson born 1889 in glasgow parents Thomas Patterson and jane ?- siblings David, Thomas and Ellen. Thomas Patterson was born about 1850 in Alloa, Clackmannanshire. Jane ? was born about 1853 in the same place. I have no marriage and would ideally be able to expand further on these family`s as much as possible
Thanks for you time

Margaret's birth certificate should give names of both parents as well as date and place of their marriage. Scottish certificates available on Scotland's People website (pay per view only so you'll need to buy a few credits to view the certificate).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Are there any ways to find information without the birth certificate?

Hi,

The only way to find out the maiden name of Margaret's mother is to find the birth certificate or the actual marriage certificate of the couple. Obviously finding Margaret's birth Certificate will be the easier option. This as aghadowey has already said should have Jane's maiden name and the place and date of the parents marriage. Then you can trace the marriage certificate , which in turn should have the name and occupation of bride & groom's fathers, the name and maiden name of bride and groom mothers, whether they are alive or deceased and the age and occupation of the bride and groom. This info will help you advance your search backwards :)

Looby :)
