There's no obvious sign on 1901

This is the best bet on 1891 in Wood Lane, Stalbridge. A bit young to be in the Boer War in 1901, and definitely not at home

Joseph Harris    38
Jane Harris    34
John Harris    16
Walter J Harris    8
Harry Harris    6
Lacy May Harris    3
Charles H Harris  1

Thanks Suz and Mabel; I wonder if he is somewhere in Wales in 1901?

Cheers, Roy

Morning Suz
I suppose it would explain why he can't be found in England or Wales but it begs the question why join a Scottish army?  Since posting the query I have found his WW1 Army Service Papers.  He was residing at 2 Tennyson Terrace, Brithdir, Glamorgan when he attestation at Bargoed on 1st March 1915, age 30, married.  He married Lucy Hannah Lewis (widow + 1 child) on Jan 15, 1910 at Bethany Chapel, Aberaman, Aberdare and was residing at 18 Cynon Street, Aberaman. He relocated to Brithdir post 1911 and when discharged from the army in 1916 returned to the area.

That's about as much as I know of him.

Cheers, Roy

the 1901 census is a record of "Boy" Royal Scots Fusiliers (if iut is him)

on his Army records he states he was educated at "Industrial School under Home Office or Local Government Board"
Usually boys went to Industrial schools if one or both  of their parents had died / the boy had been in some kind of trouble or to give the boy a trade/profession

Harry's Army records give a wealth of information -even letters written by his hand.
On discharge his address was 13 School St Tirphill New Tredegar.

What other kind of information are you looking for ?

Hi Suz
As I mentioned earlier I located his army discharge papers after posting the initial topic and now that you have pointed it out I can see that the entry 'Industrial School under Home Office or Local Government Board' marked with an asterisk; I have to admit I wasn't sure what all the options meant.  If he was at a school then I presume there won't be any records for his time there?

Thanks for helping Suz, I tend to me learning as I go along and appreciate your input.

Regards, Roy

Hi Suz
For your interest I have just located the latest census for his parents Joseph and Jane, both still alive, 57 and 55 respectively with just one other, a son Albert (15) residing in Wood Lane, Stalbridge.

Cheers Roy
