Hi Goldie,

Family Search have many images of Norfolk Parish Registers online, and free to view.

Here's the baptism of James Wright at East Ruston -
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-11668-68112-76?cc=1416598&wc=MMVP-3L9:n1921129598

And here the baptisms for North Walsham.
First one is William Barber Wright  - (right at the bottom of second page)
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-267-12580-65712-80?cc=1416598&wc=MMVP-WND:n1562538154

No occupations on these two.

You can scroll through the pages using the direction arrow at the top.

John and Martha were still alive in 1841 at North Walsham.   He is shown as a carpenter.

Hi yorklass & Annette
Many thanks for this.
I don't quite understand - I have seen the birth entries on Family Search - but there are no images of the registers when I've searched, which you seem to have found! I have seen some of the family later on at Aylsham, and there were images of the registers there. Perhaps I need to go into a different search page for the North Walsham ones?

Thanks for the 1841 entry. Sounds as if he was a carpenter then.

Somehow he managed to educate his sons to become surveyors - any ideas where they would have gone to school to be able to do this? Sounds unlikely it would have been a little school in the village!
Cheers

Hello again goldie,

Yes, the digitised registers are on a "different" website, but still done by the LDS.

Here is the list of parishes that are online -
 http://www.rootschat.com/links/0vzb/

If you then click on whichever you want to look at, you will be given a list of Baptisms, Marriages, Burials etc.

For instance, East Ruston - then click on the dates you want
 http://www.rootschat.com/links/0wgj/

I chose Marriages 1754-1812, then you get the images of the registers.

From there, use the direction arrow to look through the images, or type in a number.

For instance, the marriage of James Wright and Martha Barber is image no 27

I'm afraid I can't help with the surveying question .....

Hi Goldie, Sir William Paston opened Paston school in 1606, in North Walsham, it is now
Paston 6th form college, created in 1984 by joining Paston school with the North Walsham
High School for girls. Paston school was where Horatio Nelson went to for a while, so high
educational standards???? The Barber-Wrights may have gone there. You could google
Paston school for more info, Dave.

Hi Yorklass
I finally got round to looking at the Norfolk registers via your links. Great.
Blow me if I can find how you get to look at other counties to see if they have registers filmed though!
I've tried going through 'wiki', but not having a lot of success!
Need another tutorial. :P
Any ideas gratefully received

I found out about another school in that area run by a Robert Summers - another surveyor in the late 1700s and early 1800s. Quite likely they went there.
