Litt Family, Whitehaven, Cumbria
« on: Thursday 10 October 13 19:04 BST (UK) »
Hello, I am trying to trace the Litt family tree from the 1950's back to 1841. My Grandparents used to live on Earls Road, Bransty, Whitehaven. Thank you for your time.

Welcome to Rootschat

Can you quote any names and or dates ? Without naming living people.

Doing the full Census for one Family is asking a lot for 1911
there are 8 Families living in Whitehaven, Kinniside, Parton Moresby Park, Bransty, Moor Row
plus one in the Infirmary/Workhouse so if you can give a little more then it will become easier

Hi and welcome from me too

A request without any christian names/birthyears etc can only be answered in a general way so here goes.

Work backwards from your parents/grandparents as follows:

You will know the names of your grandparents so do you have a copy of your grandfather Litt's birth cert showing his year of birth and his parents names and mothers maiden name

Use that info to search freebmd for his parents marriage  www.freebmd.org.uk

Once you reach a point where the people were born before 1911 - use the 1911 census to find them with their families

If you have access to one of the many subscription sites such as Ancestry or Find My Past - keep going backwards using the info from the census returns
