Help Please - Adam Henderson
« on: Sunday 13 October 13 16:19 BST (UK) »
Adam Henderson (1820-1879), married Janet Chisholm (1811-1878) in Roxburgh.  I am looking for the birth place of Adam, as well as his parents - Willam Henderson (1793-1887) and Agnes (1791-1862). I have information on Willam being born in Eglinham and Agnes in Glaxton but not sure whether these towns existed and whether this information is correct.

1861 census has a Henderson family in England, at Glanton, Northumberland:
William Henderson head age 70, ag lab, born Scotland
Agnes Henderson wife age age 72, born Scotland
Janet Henderson daughter unmarried age 32, born Scotland
and grandchildren Agnes, Henry, Ellen and James all under 12 and born Northumberland

Could the Glaxton you have be Glanton, and be where William lived, not where he was born?

The 1851 census, if the one posted by Loobylooayr is the same people, says William was 60 and was born in Ednam, Roxburghshire. So it looks as if his birth date was 1790 or 1791.

Same family in 1841 at Primside Mill, Morebattle, Roxburghshire - William Henderson age 50 ag lab, Agness age 50 and Alice age age 25.

FamilySearch only has one baptism for a William Henderson at the right time, and that's on 22 August 1790 at Ednam, parents David Henderson and Allison Brown. If you think that's the right William it would be worth downloading the OPR image from ScotlandsPeople in case it gives more information.
AYRSHIRE - Strachan, McCrae, Haddow, Haggerty, Neilson, Alexander
ABERDEENSHIRE (Cruden and Longside) - Fraser, Hay, Logan, Hutcheon or Hutchison, Sangster
YORKSHIRE (Worsbrough) - Green, Oxley, Firth, Cox, Rock
YORKSHIRE (Royston and Carlton) - Senior, Simpson, Roydhouse, Hattersley

Could this be Adam's marriage? https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XTL4-6JX

There is another Adam Henderson around the same time tin Roxburghshire who marries a Janet EASTON.

Hi again,
No problem Carole. I got sidetracked with that family too ::)
I can't find Adam and Janet Henderson on the 1851. Do you think bearing in mind where they were married- Berwick - that they could be south of the border on the English 1851 Census? ???
