Did Stanley George Dickinson ROGERS die?
« on: Sunday 13 October 13 20:46 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find a death record for Stanley George Dickinson ROGERS, the son of John Gait Rogers & Louisa Minnie Dickinson. They married in Bath, where John worked as a Grocer, in 1886 and their only child, Stanley, was born the following year. John died on 8th March 1889 and around 1892 Louisa married for a second time. Her new husband was a local farmer, George CANDY. They all appear together in the 1901 Census, along with a son and a daughter of the marriage.

In the 1911 Census, George is at home with his son, George Dickinson CANDY, whilst Louisa was in Bournemouth (convalescing? - she was to die the following year) with her daughter, Ethel Mary Candy. Stanley is nowhere to be seen. Interestingly George has listed the fact that the marriage produced two children who were both alive. Louisa has recorded that she had three children of whom one had died; could this mean Stanley was dead? If so, I can find no record of his death. Any ideas anyone?

Hi if his birth date was 15th September 1887 then he looks to be the Stanley depicted by Ladyhawk, as on 21st August 1958 he returned to South Africa on the Capetown Castle aged 71 occ Farmer Widower address in UK Meadow Farm, Bathampton, Bath.

That's amazing - thank you Ladyhawk & Keyboard. There is certainly a South African connection. On a headstone at Stanton Drew, next to the memorials to John Gait Rogers & others of the family, there is the inscription:
In memory of George Rogers
South African Air Force
Killed in Italy April 7th 1944

I guess this could be Stanley's son. Now to find Stanley on the 1911 Census

It would seem he was

George Lawrence Dickenson Rogers age 22 (born c 1922)

Son of Mr. and Mrs. S. G. Rogers, of Yarima, P.O. Arlington, Orange Free State, South Africa.

Not seeing Stanley  on UK 1911 census  ??? - perhaps he had left for SA before then

Thank you once again Ladyhawk,

That fills in a great gap in my knowledge of this family. I'm inclined to think as you suggest that Stanley went to SA before 1911 - the lack of any military record in the UK backs this up. Thank you  for the links for images - I will follow these up too

kind regards
