James Bailey 1861 census - Please
« on: Thursday 17 October 13 23:01 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I am trying to find out more about the earlier life of my GGG-Grandfather JAMES BAILEY

The earliest census I have him in, is 1871. Searching earlier census', although unable to access the full details, I think he is on the 1861 census in Rochdale.

He was born in Staffordshire and lived his later life in Rochdale. I know he was there in '71 and it seems he was there in '61.
He was born about 1831 possibly in Rushton area of Staffordshire.

Thanks

Jonathan

Hi,

Thanks, seems we're starting to piece it together.

My James Bailey was married to a lady called Sarah. Her first name and her birthplace and date of Oldham, 1834 is all I know of her.
She must have died between the 1871 and 1881 census' because James is married to a Jane, who's former married name was Midgley. As they are living with some of her children from that pervious marriage.

Does anyone have the full details of this James Bailey from the 1861 census.
He should be still married to his first wife Sarah and have three of their children - Samuel, Nancy and Thomas.

That marriage in 1852 looks good. All i've managed is to find lots of James Bailey's marrying a Sarah in the Manchester area.
