William and Mary Ann (Slater) Kelly
« on: Friday 18 October 13 21:38 BST (UK) »
I am looking for information about my great grandfather and mother William and Mary Ann (Slater) Kelly. I think they were from Donegal. I am not sure where my grandmother was born- Donegal or Derry. She had a brother and sister born in Ireland and then the family emmigrated to Canada. I am not sure where they landed there, but moved to Quebec where she married my grandfather George Martin Knowles. I think my great great grandfather Kelly was also William. Mary Ann's parents were John Slater and Mary Anderson. I think they were Presbyterian. I am looking for relatives left behind. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I think it was 1872 and in Londonderry. I also have the name of a town- Kilderry for the birth of my great uncle- Joseph- would be William and Mary Ann's son 16 Aug 1874. My grandmother, Sarah Jane, was born 3 April 1878 in Derry County. Thank you this is exciting to think I may be getting somewhere!

Is there any information about siblings for William or Mary Ann? I am interested in finding descendents who may still live in the area. Also wondered about their parents- where they were born etc..William's father was also William and I think his mother wa Mary Jane Steele. Mary Ann Slater's parents were John and Mary Anderson (1828-1835). I wonder where they were born and married, etc.I think I have that William and Mary Ann left Ireland in 1880 with their children- William, Joseph, and Sarah. I think the name of the ship was the Moravian- left from Londonderry and went to Liverpool and then to Quebec City, Canada. Again thank you so much for your help. Sharon

The information you are looking for is well before the start of civil registration of births, marriages and deaths so you need to search for existing church records once you have a location and the family's religion. Not all church records go back this far and of those that do, not all will be online.

I don't think this one is related. My grandmother had a brother Joseph, but he was Kelly. Slater was their mother's maiden name. Thank you, Sharon
