James Colhoun of Kenneystown, Urney, Co. Tyrone
« on: Sunday 27 October 13 14:48 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I am looking for more information on James Colhoun family.
He was born in 1854 approx in Kennystown, Urney, Co. Tyrone.

I know he had a sister called Mary who married a teacher called John Johnston.

He also had a brother called David who went to live in Belfast but would love to know when he was born did he have a family their names and where and when he died?

Also did James have any other brothers or sisters and who his parents are.

Any information would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

For starters, albeit perhaps you have already viewed:

and

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Tyrone/Urney__East/Kennystown/851354/

There are a John and William Colhhoun listed in Kennystown in mid 1800s Griffiths Valuation - possible candidates for being James' dad:

Two Colhouns listed in the earlier timescale Tithe Applotments, but neither in Kennystown:

And a possibility for David:

His wife Sarah

Died 29th Nov 1933

found at  http://www.cotyroneireland.com/graveyard/oldurney.html

therefore, very possibly this couple:

And a marriage of an earlier James for further checking:

James Colhoun to a Catherine Colhoun on 27 April 1849 at Urney, Presbyterian Church

albeit possibly from one of the other Urney townlands.

The James of the 1901 census seems to have, going by Griffiths Valuation revision books, taken over his property from a Jane Colhoun in 1894 - Jane having taken over from a William in 1869 - so maybe William and Jane were James' mother and father?

Hi,

It seems rather strange that David and Sarah died within two days of each other.

There are still Colhoun's lliving in Kennystown and on the land from the G Evaluations.  I wouldnt be too sure on who these people are, but my father who is John Colhoun's cousin George would know quite a bit about the family tree.

Hi
I am also looking into the Colhoun's of Kennystown.  My gt grandfather's sister was Jane Craig who married William Colhoun of Kennystown in 1856.  I know they had at least one child a son William born 1865 (same year his father died).  The James from the 1901 & 1911 census could be another child.

Would be interested in hearing from you.
