Hi,

There is this possibility in 1861 - 190 Upper Windsor Street, Aston, Warwickshire
Charles Mason, 33, soldier, born London
Lydia Mason, 31, laundress, born London
William Mason, 10, ditto
Joseph Mason, 8, ditto
John Mason, 6, ditto

You say Joseph was a soldier but I only see him as a dock worker? Where did you get his mothers name as Sophia from?

His wife at this time is in walton prison but cannot find a marriage

Hi again, When you say "his wife" are you suggesting that we should be looking for a Mrs Mason in Walton Prison in 1891 census?

The Edward J Hughes aged 16 b Bootle shown as Brother in Law in the above 1891 census, from the GRO Index suggests this birth registration:-

Edward James Hughes June qtr 1874 West Derby v 8b page 385 Mothers Maiden name TRASH

EDIT ok so she is the Ellen Mason aged 25 Married occ Prisoner b Anglesey in Walton Prison in 1891.
