Ward Family
« on: Sunday 03 November 13 14:50 GMT (UK) »
Kathleen Ward 1905/8 daughter of Thomas Ward (Tinker) Ireland. Think maybe in Southern Ireland
as Kathleen marries in Wexford. I do not have any more information, ??? but have been told that Ward was a big traveller family in Ireland. Lack of recorded detail addresses etc, on marriage cert of Kathleen residence is shown as Vagus.
Any Ward folk with Irish connections need your help please  :'(

Morning Carole,
Many thanks for your reply. yes I have checked 1911 census and am unable to find a Thomas with a child Kathleen to match the criteria I have. I have no birth certificate for Kathleen, but understand it was common practice to baptist a child but not register the birth. Not sure if this was secrecy thing or the fact that folks moved about a lot.  I just need to find someone else who has my Ward's on their tree. Big ask or what  :-\    but I may get lucking.

"residence is shown as Vagus"

I suggest this may be "Vagrant" -  a person who has no settled home.

Hi. Murrel. The ward name is old in travellers. I am a blood relative of the wards in Darlington. But only know the English wards. As to birth registration. My mother had a few siblings not registered. No real reason. But in days gone by. You could only work in your parish. To work in other parishes you had to have a work ticket. And have it punched. Spiked. Hence pykies .spikes. So maybe non registration let you work in different parts.? Think the vagrant is right. And the wards are a large Irish traveller family. Sorry I cannot help with tracing your side of the wards. Rob.
