Looking for parents of Jeanne Huelin
« on: Sunday 03 November 13 16:19 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find the parents and if possible any siblings of my 2 x great grandmother Jeanne Huelin.

She married Richard Allen / Aylin in 1799 and had twins Jane Kitty and Nancy Betty baptised in Jan 1801.

She later had two children with John Scott.
Elizabeth Ann Scott bapt 1816
John Scott bapt 1817

Jane Aylin was godmother to Elizabeth Ann and Elizabeth Ann was godmother to one of Jane Kitty's children so I know that the same Jeanne Huelin was mother to the four children.
Jeanne was buried as Jane Scott wife of John in 1835 and age stated as 57 making her birth year about 1778.

The information I have is from Jerripedia and some kind Rootschatters who helped with info on Elizabeth Scott's baptism and the Fowler family which she married into.

The nearest baptim to 1778 is for Jeanne daughter of Jean Huelin and Maria Madelaine Dallain, but I am not convinced.

Does anyone have any information on this couple to confirm or disprove the relationship with my Jeanne?

Also if anyone has access to the original bmd records for the twins and John Scott jnr and Richard and Jeanne's marriage, I would be grateful if they could check godparents and marriage witnesses, I have found these often give useful information.

Thanks

I don't think the entries in the registers are going to get you much further forward.

Godparents of Nancy Betty - Philippe Picot and Anne Picot his daughter
"                Jane Kitty - Mr Philippe Jnr and Jeanne Picot his sister

There are no godparents in the register for John Scott but it does mention that the baptism took place 'a la maison' so it doesn't sound as if he was expected to live.

Similarly there are no witnesses in the register for the marriage of Richard Allen and Jeanne Huelin which took place on February 13th 1799. I'm afraid St Helier registers are very sparse with their details.

Elizabeth Ann's godmother, Jane Aylin, is described as 'souer maternelle de l'enfant' which would imply that she was an older (half) sister of Elizabeth's from Jeanne's first marriage.

Thank you for your help. It does give the possibility that there is a connection with the Picot family.

I have looked further into the Jeanne Huelin who was the child of Jean and Marie Madelaine Dallain and have discounted her as my Jeanne.

From census records

In 1841: at Augerez, St Peter:
John and Rachel Huelin both age 40 (b abt 1801)
Philip 13 (1828), William 11 (1830), James 9 (1832), Jane 1 (1840)
And two older Jane Huelins one 68 (b abt 1773), the other 65 (b abt 1776).

In 1851:
John Huelin 51 (1800) Farmer Head b St P
Rachel 50 (1801) Wife b St O
James 19 (1832) son, Jane 11 (1840) b St P
Jane Huelin 78 (1773) widow mother b St O
Jane Huelin 74 (1777) unmarried aunt b St P

From Jerripedia

Baptisms at  St Peter
Jean : 31 Aug 1823
Philippe: 13 Oct 1827
William: 07 Mar 1830
James: 25 Mar 1832
Jane: 13 Mar 1840
All children of Jean Huelin and Rachel Sauvage

Marriage at St Peter:
Jean Huelin of St P and Rachel Sauvage of St O
24 Nov 1822

Baptism at St Peter
Jean Huelin son of Jean Huelin and Jeanne Du Heaume
23 Feb 1800

Marriage at St Peter:
Jean Huelin of St P and Jeanne Du Heaume of St O
22 Feb 1799

So Jean senior (deceased by 1841) has a sister Jeanne b abt 1777. Assuming Jean to be similar age to his wife, the only brother and sister with these names and ages are the children of Jean Huelin and Marie Madelaine Dallain.

Maybe my Jeanne was never baptised
