Hi George

Just to add that the June 2013 newsletter from Scotlands People has some very interesting info about Oakbank mining village and provides a link which enables you to access the 1895 valuation rolls for the village for free. You can access old newsletters through the Scotlands People site. If you go to the search site section and put newsletter in search box it should get you there.

Cheers

Hello George,

Did Robert die in 1925? I live in the area and know there is Crow family buried in both Kirknewton Churchyard and East Calder Cemetery.

Me again George. Should have said I have taken photographs of some graves in both cemeteries, mainly related to the local war memorial, and am willing to go along and take a photograph of any Crow graves.

Hi George
The death of a Robert Crow previously referred to in Ohio is in the Ohio Deaths on Family Search. You can see the actual image. I don't think it can be your Robert. The cert says he was single and was born Jan 13 1850 with parents Robert Crow and Elizabeth Barr. The informant was Margaret Anderson. He died 3 March 1920. He was a miner.

Cheers

William

Have you discounted the Robert Crow on the 1911 census, aged 59 and living in Kirkliston, West Lothian?

Have you got Robert already in 1901? Is this him?

Jane Stewart 27 b. Kirknewton, Edinburgh
Maggie Stewart 6
Mary Stewart 4
Jeanie Stewart 2
Jessie Stewart 1
Robert Crow 51, lodger, shale miner b. Kirknewton, Edinburgh

Address: Main St, Uphall West Lothian

Have you checked the death of a Robert Crow, aged 76 in 1925 in the Edinburgh area on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk? Is the death you mentioned earlier Mags?

Hello,

Just had a look at the death cert on ScotlandsPeople. Unfortunately, the parents names are blank. Robert's son Thomas was the informant. Strange that he did not know his grandparents' names! Robert was living in Winchburgh and his son Thomas at East Calder. If this is your Robert then I know he is buried at Kirknewton. He was also married 3 times. He is the only Robert Crow died in 1925 on the ScotlandsPeople site.

That sounds promising Mags  :) Did father and son Thomas both show as shale miners on the 1925 DC? Thomas, son, showed as a shale miner in 1901.

Hello Monica,

Robert is shown as an oilworker, have seen some listing occ. as shale worker and then oil worker. However only has address for Thomas. Thomas made his mark as the informant. Interestingly there is a death of a Thomas Willis Crow who died in 1940 in East Calder. Must be the same family as Willis was a name mentioned by George in an earlier post. Could be a coincidence but also could be the son of Robert or, at least, a relative.
