I have spent most of this morning trying to find him

Hi Simon.

Could he be the Frederick Snowden aged 9 on the 1871?  Ref:  RG10/3494 folio 63 page 34.  Parents on previous page were George and Elizabeth.  Elizabeth was 46 born Blidworth.  I am wondering if she remarried and was the Elizabeth North born Blidworth on the 1881 census - hence he was son in law to her husband William North.

Many thanks Cathy & Mo

George Snoden died Sep Qtr 1872,  Elizabeth Snowden married William North in Mar Qtr 1873, so on the 1881 census Fred should have been down as Stepson instead of son-in-law

Thank you once again

Kindest regards

Simon

In that era the term "son-in-law" could also mean what we now call stepson.

Fred Snodin was my great grandad. He was born in 1862 and lived at 171 Main St Woodborough.
He married Alice Handley in 1881 and my grandad Bernard Snodin was born in 1904.
Fred and Alice also had Ellen, Charles, Esther, William, Ethel, Lewis(louis) and Harold before my grandad was born. In 1901 they were living in The Row, Woodborough.
Fred was a framework knitter, as were many of the family
