Reid/Moir Family Greenock
« on: Thursday 07 November 13 14:11 GMT (UK) »
This is the first time I have researched a friends family in Scotland so I may seem a bit incoherent sorry.
I have a death certificate for 1963 for Lena Roberts age 89. Her father was William Reid a marine stoker. Her mother was Johanna Reid previously m.s Moir. Can anyone tell me what the m.s means and where do I go to find more about William and Johanna please.
Any help would be appreciated
Regards
Ann

Hi timeteam
welcome to Rootschat,  :)
m.s means maiden surname,

are you familiar with Scotlands People website,?
it is the official site for all of Scotlands records, if Lena's parents were born and Married in Scotland their records should be on there.

Think she may have married by 1901 as there is a Lena Roberts b 1874 in Germany living in Devonport, Devon. She is listed as sister in law. Her mother in law Maria Roberts is also in household. It looks as if there are 2 children Rosina 9 and Johanah 3 both born in Scotland. This would suggest that her marriage was in Scotland sometime after the 1891 census.

William
Dent (Haltwhistle and Sacriston), Bell and Jetson (Haltwhistle), Postle, Ward, Longstaff, Purvis, Manners, Parnaby and Hardy (Co. Durham), Kennedy and McRobert (Banffshire), Reid(Bathgate), Watson (Wemyss), Graham (Libberton), Sandilands (Carmichael), Munro (Dingwall)
