Thank you all so much. I live in Suffolk and am a very senior citizen so unable to get around much. What you have given me is invaluable.

Ann

There are some family trees on this family on a/try which might help for general background, to use a guide to further searches, Ann.

William Reid b. 1845 in Ireland d. 26 Mar 1905 in Greenock (Suffocation from choking  :-\). He is showing as having married twice. Firstly to an Ellen Allan in 1884 and then a Johanna Specht in 1885. Both marriages show in Greenock. I can see the 1885 to Johanna but have to use SPEC* so not sure how it has been indexed. Wonder also whether Johanna's surname was anglized in later years, if you have it now Ann as MOIR? Another possibility is that Johanna was also married previously.

Not sure given all these years, who was parent to which of the children. Maybe because both Johanna and Lena show as born in Germany, they both came over before mother Johanna married William Reid in 1885?

The surname MOYER is given for a first husband for Johanna (might fit, MOIR and MOYER...although a little confused as to who was who over the years over the years maybe).

William Reid's parents are given as a William and a Margaret Jane Neil Cochran.

Johanna as a John and Rosa Specht.

Something to work from. A lot of this can be confirmed with BMDs etc.

Monica  :)

Hello Monica
Well you have certainly given me a lot to work on and I am very grateful. The family thought there was a german connection and more than one marriage, but as with most families it was a lot of hearsay..I am supposed to be related to the Chipperfield circus family but cant find it. They also had the name Spest which fits in with what you have said. Thank you once again.
Regards
Ann

Hi Ann

I haven't used it, but www.mundia.com/gb/ continues to be free to register on which is great. You should be able to access the family tree I have seen on a/try there (they are linked to a/try).

Search for parents William Reid and Johanna Specht (I am seeing it as the McCartney family tree). The tree owner seems to be connected to the son James b. 6 Apr 1886 in Greenock.

You and or your friend might want to contact the tree owner perhaps to find out more information?

Hello Rosina,
I am doing this tree for a friend who is of the Roberts line. She is in touch with a relative called Adeline who I think has been in contact with your mum or you. I am stuck as everything is on Scotlands people site and I do not subscribe. It appears that the connection is through Rosina who married James Roberts. Their son Edward was her dad. I will try to work out her connection to you and let you know. I also got stuck on the german line. Let me know if there is anything specific you want but I really am stuck. I don't mid telling you the names I have
Regards Ann
