Have you tried looking at the HALS resources?

I would suggest being creative with the search name, no need to put a year range in.

As Long Marston is so near the Bucks AND Beds borders then it may pay you to generally widen your search.
There are also Long Marston places in other counties as well.

Hello, Emsworth.

I have traced the family back to the early 1500s around Tring - I live in Tring and own land at Long Marston.

What is the earliest LM Gregory that you have?

Regards,
Ivor Gregory.

Hi Astrope

I think we may have been in touch many years ago.  My grandfather was the Charles Gregory who died  in a shooting incident in Long Marston in about 1890.

I also have a copy  of your magnum opus of 1981 sadly missing the appendices, obtained I think, from my nephew Marcus Beresford. A splendid effort, are you a historian?

I doubt if I could add anything to it! At 90 I have more or less given up on trying to sort out the numerous Gregory families.

I used to live in Pinner and there have been Gregorys farming there until quite recently.

Yours

Stephen Holloway

P.S. Being new to Roots chat, I don't know where we go from here- if anywhere.

Good to hear from you.  No, I am not an historian, just a very enthusiastic amateur who has spent thousands of hours on it over the years - most of the work was done leading up to the document in about 1981.

Perhaps you could let me know your email address and your part of the tree around the time of your grandfather, Charles - I have a Charles (1850-1886) who might fit.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Ivor Gregory.
