Yes -  the use of the same name I have come across, but only when previous child was deceased.

What I am checking now are names that where used frequently in the family.

may find a link that way.

But goodness knows where they were in 1881  -  Roots and I have searched that one before I am sure.

If you do decide to order certs from the GRO without using the index reference you will have to wait about 15 working days for them to be despatched.

I wonder if they are with relatives and have been entered under their name rather than Clarke?

yes, I thought that, the Grandparents are all deceased  - So not with them. Sarahs maiden name was Yorke, and she had a few siblings - 10 in all.  Living in and around the same area.

so main area is SHENTON - Barwell - Hinckley -
Sarahs married sisters names are Latimer, Faulkner and Tomlinson, those are the ones I have found there are others but havent found the married names.
Thomas siblings are Robert   -  John    --- and Elizabeth.

so I will go through those again later and see.

thanks for all help, it is a difficult one.

I've checked all the Eliza 1873 and Alice 1875 in Leicestershire and can't see them. Another reason could be that the family fell on hard times and the parents had to work as live in servants, so the children were in a workhouse. They could just be listed under initials if that is the case.

oh dear, that would be awful, will have to check that out.

If that is the case, then the ones that survived eventually apart from Alice my g.Nan who died of TB and Ernest who died in the war - the others did extremely well all told...
So  need to get on to that -
The eldest Sarah Elizabeth, was always known to me as Auntie Lizzie, and I spent an awful lot of time with her growing up.  She was a real character, very strict - never had children of her own.  She brought my Nan up, when Alice died.   But that generation were a secretive lot, and nothing was ever mentioned regarding her childhood.....

Thanks for your help  really appreciated.

How about looking to find baptisms and burials?   The local church register may hold all of this information and then you won't need certificates.  Another option is to write to the local register office and ask them.  I know they shouldn't give information but they just might if you explain the problem!
