Gadget: Thank you, you have been really helpful.

I guess this will all unravel itself one day... so much information to digest...Thanks.
It is all pretty hard trying to work from the other side of the world, not knowing the counties/district structures etc. and just where to start so this has been really great.

I guess it's just as well I am retired and can spend some time piecing this puzzle together!!!!!

annep5892: Hi and thanks for your postings, I will work through information that I have received and see how I go piecing it all together.

Regarding the piece about  Charles Saywell Tarrant, I can remember going with my parents to a "Tarrant" home as a younger child in my parents home town of Feilding, N.Z. and asked my older sister today if she could remember also. She and I both remembered where they lived, neither can remember his name but think his wife was Nellie! So interesting.. our father rarely spoke on family matters with us!!    Thanks.

homers.

Back one more generation:

William Currie, widower,  died at Roadend, Ochiltree on 17th December 1858, aged 88.
Parents - Adam Currie, ag lab, and Janet m.s. Tinnock. Both deceased
Cause - Gradual decay - 18 months.

He was buried at Ochiltree churchyard.

His son Robert was the informant.

So he did outlive James.

A couple of parish maps for you:
