Hi there,

Very hard to read.
The bottom year looks like 1808 or 3
The one nearer Harrys name looks like either 1859 or 1869

The words at the bottom ?  ?  with the Lord.

If you live near the gravestone you might be better tracing over it with a pencil
and it might stand out better?

Good luck

regards Sandymc

p.s.  A clue to where you think her was born might help as he should be on the
records somewhere.
Midgley, Fowler, Chadwick, Kilvington, Routledge, Hewitt, Stevenson, Ward, Waite, Binks , Buck, Pearson,  Stanley, Firth, Child, Hobson, Rogers, all Leeds and Yorkshire for centuaries except the Routledges from Wigton, Cumbria and Middlesbrough. Related to McAllisters of Wilsontown

Thank you for the reply Sandymc

Trouble is that Harry died in Syracuse, NY so I doubt if I will be able to visit the grave.

The attachment is a printscreen from the website Findagrave (I have been in touch with the person who had posted the photo) would it be better if I could get a copy of the original?

Kindest regards

Thank you cemetery friend

I think if anything the bottom date should be 1893 that was the year Harry was buried but I will go along with the top date of 1869.

Kindest regards

Hi Ridgeback,
The trouble with these old gravestones is they have been worn away with the weather etc.
I have looked around for gravestones and some of the cemeteries are really in bad condition
especially for people who passed in the 1800's.
Do you know where he originated from?  If we knew his origins we might be able to find his
death even though it was in New York.  Sometimes you can find out the dates give or take a
few years on the searching and get the correct dates that way.
Has he always lived in the USA if so, you could put your request on the American site on Rootschat.
I am sorry but I don't know whether a photo of the original would be any better.  I put it
on high magnification on my PC and still didn't get it quite right  :o

Thank you Sandymc

My Gt Grandfather Harry was born in Norfolk UK and then emigrated with his wife to USA in April 1892 but unfortunately died in 1893 leaving a nearly born son and his wife. They both returned to the UK in May 1893.

I will post this thread on the American site on Rootschat.

Thanks again to all.

Hi again,

Just had a look for you on the indexes and found the following.

Harry William Seaman born 2nd quarter 1869 registration district Downham (Barton)
saw his parents on a family tree, Robert Seaman and Alice Jackson.
Harry married Clara Boon in the 1st quarter of 1892 reg, dist Downham.
So looks like Harry and Clara went to the USA quite quickly after their marriage.
Harry died in February 1893.
