Hi, I don't know where she was brought up but one of my cousins thinks that it was Garvagh and that there were some Presbyterian Mullans there.

There is a James Mullan cattle dealer living in Garvagh listed in the 1911 census who is a Presbyterian...he has a family though...

There is a James Mullan cattle dealer living in Garvagh listed in the 1911 census who is a Presbyterian...he has a family though...
Not sure that that is the correct Mullan but just in case...

You might be on to something there - their youngest was 21 in 1911 census which would mean that by the time Jeannie came to live with them c1914 they would have been 24 which would explain why I had the impression that she was the only child. There can't have been that many Presbyterian Mullans knocking around the area! I think her adoptive father died when she was quite young which would also tie in.

Someone in Garvagh is bound to remember your granny being raised in Garvagh- will see what I can find. Meanwhile, here's a bit further back-

Hugh, Ballynacally, son of John Mullin & Sarah Doherty, bapt. 29 Jan.1864 Aghadowey Presbyterian Church.
George, Ballynacally, son of John Mullin & Sarah Doherty, bapt. 18 Dec.1865 Aghadowey Presbyterian Church.

Had forgotten about them, familyroutes, because most of the research we did for the book was concerning those who were killed. Will look through the files to see if I have any more information on those 2 brothers.
