This is just a possible which I am putting up just in case.  :-\

1851 at Seahouses, North Sunderland, Northumberland
William Watson   59, ag lab
Mary Watson   22, dau, housekeeper, b North Sunderland

I cannot see a death for Elizabeth Caroline COCHRANE at all.  It 's possible that Henry had a relationship with a Mary WATSON (not necessarily this Mary WATSON).  Perhaps she moved in with him to look after the children  :-\. It seems as though the children thought that Mary WATSON was their mother which would imply that they were quite young when Mary came on the scene, not to have known who their mother was.

We need a death for Elizabeth, a death for Mary. Do we have immigration for Henry and his sons?

Cheers, Judith  :D

Henry James Cochrane was baptised at Bamburgh on 2 December 1821.

I am researching the family of his brother George and would like to make contact with the originator of this thread. How do I do that?

Dear Judith
Thank you...

Henry and four of his brothers came to Australia - it seems that only their sister Alice survived and remained in England.  Family lore was that someone went to Canada and I had thought it was Henry - what a surprise to find him in Australia!

Just one more post, Oscella.........

Family lore is always interesting.  Sometimes it's true, sometimes just a grain of truth and sometimes it's just not right!  Good for a starting point though.

Dear Judith
Well as a sideline I wasn't going to really put in a big effort chasing him so quite delighted to find him just in time for my write up of the family

Was there a Percival Cochrane in either of the trees here?  I have a Percival Cochrane, born 1835 and died in a mining accident in 1890 in Mitta Mitta.

Yes I believe the Percival who died in Mitta Mitta in 1890 was a brother of Henry James and my great grandfather George. But the informant on his death certificate was the local policeman and did not known anything about where he was born or his parentage, or even if he was married. The paper said he left a wife and four children; but I have not found a marriage, and births of only two children, both certificates state he and the mother were not married. One says he came from Northumberland and the other that he came from Newcastle (England).
