Conviction James Vining

The London Gazette lists James Vining, occ Mason, formerly of Wincanton late of Charlton Horethorne  as a resident of Ivelchester Gaol in June 1776 . Anyone able to provide his crime or more information on him? TIA Pete

If you access the entry and back-track previous pages, you will find that these lists are of those imprisoned for debt, giving notice that they are about to take benefit from an Act for the Relief of Insolvent Debtors and for the Relief of Bankrupts in certain Cases.  There is a second similar notice, in effect giving creditors ample opportunity to appear when the cases went before the respective courts.

Thanks, I had seen the second notice but didn't realise they were debtors only. That looks to be fairly likely the same man I'm after as he died 9 years later & buried on the Parish.
