Looking for a marriage between 1871 and 1877.
« on: Sunday 19 June 05 10:18 BST (UK) »
I am looking for the place and date of a marriage between George Lund from Pontefract and Elizabeth ?, who was born at Brinsley, Nottingham.  They must have been married sometime between 1871 and (presumably) the birth of their daughter Emma.  Around 1877.

In 1871 George Lund (born 1842 at Pontefract) was living with his mum at North Gate, Pontefract:

LUND Isabella W M 45 - charwoman - Baln?
LUND George son U 27 - carter at colliery - Pontefract
LUND Ann dau U 15 - dom serv - ditto

In 1881 George is married with 2 children and living at Market Place, Pontefract, the eldest child is 4 years old.

The 1881 census gives:

George Lund, Born 1842, Birthplace Pontefract, Age 39, Occupation Brick Setter.
Elizabeth Lund, Wife, Born 1851, Birthplace Brinsley, Nottingham, Age 30.
Emma Lund, Daughter, Born 1877, Birthplace Pontefract, Age 4, Occupation Scholar.
William Lund, Son, Born 1880, Birthplace Pontefract, Age 1.

If I can find their marriage details I can get the certificate and find Elizabeth’s maiden name.

Thanks,

Tony.

If you have no luck with the marriages you can find her maiden name from one of the birth certs. Won't give Elizabeth's fathers's name of course.

William  Warwick Lund Birth Quarter ending Sept 1879

Thanks, my grandfather Harry was born into this family in 1892 and I have sent for his birth certificate.  So I shall just wait for that and see what comes up.

William Warwick Lund is interesting, mother's maiden name for a middle name perhaps? or perhaps not!

I did have a look around for an Elizabeth born 1851 Brinsley on the 1861 and 1871 census but didn't spot anything that looked worthwhile. And, yes did look for Elizabeth Warwick but..................

There was an Elizabeth Gregory with those details on one census and then on the next all the details were different so if you get her maiden name we can take it from there.

Should be easy ;) ;) ;)

Why have you gone from 10 posts to 1 ??

I am guessing that when I cleaned out all the old stuff from my computer, including temporary internet files and cookies, and ran the anti-virus software, I must have broken a link to this site because it was no longer able to recognise me.  However, re-registering was possible under the same name because this site no longer believed that I existed.  So I seem to have a new membership using the old name and the same password.  I am not 100% sure about the cookie explanation, but I think that is what has happened.

Tony,

Well not quite - you have a differnet username now - one without a "." after it :) Welcome back anyhow.

I am not the only one with a changeable name.  It looks like my Great Grandfather George was registered as Lunn at birth and might have married under that name.  Certainly Pontefract have no record of a George Lund born in 1842.  I received the census index for 1851 "L" in Pontefract this morning and 8 year old George and his father William and Mother Isabella are all Lunn in that.   I think William and Isabella were also married as Lunn in 1841.

William Lund b 1819 = Isabella b 1824
Children: George b 1842 / Ruth / Ann.

George Lund b 1842 = Elizabeth b 1851
Children: Harry b 1892 / William / Emma / Ruth / George  / John  / Tom.

Lund seems to be used from the 1861 census onwards.  But references I have seen to christenings of William and his Children going back to 1819 are all for Lund (so far anyway), but it looks like the b/m/d records and census may well be all Lunn for before 1861.  Time will tell.  This is turning out to be a lot more interesting than I expected it to be.

Even if George's birth was registered as Lunn, I am pretty sure he would have been buried as Lund, that was definitely the surname used by all his children.
