Margaret McKenzie
« on: Friday 27 December 13 21:31 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to read and locate an OPR.  This is of Margaret McKenzie, daughter of Thomas McKenzie and Margaret Edington.  The OPR reads:

"Margaret daughter of Thos. McKenzie Hind in Fenton and his wife Cathering Edington was born this day 29 February 1832] and was baptized publicly.

My question is what is "Hind" and where is "Fenton."  The OPR is from Dirleton, East Lothian.

I appreciate your help.

Scott

Scott, this is likely the family (mistranscribed on the spelling of surname likely) but still showing in Fenton in 1841:

Thomas McKindgie 45 agr. lab.
Catherin McKindgie 45
Alexander McKindgie 20
Catheran McKindgie 15
Christian McKindgie 13
Margret McKindgie 9
Agnes McKindgie 6

Address: Fenton, Dirleton

Fenton looks to have been a village in Dirleton. A little more detail here www.clerkington.plus.com/GENUKI/ELN/Dirleton/Gaz1868.html

Hi All,

Fenton was locally known as Fenton Barns, which is just south of Dirleton, and up until recently was quite famous as a turkey producer. There is also a farm shop, so I think the farm still exists.
