The HARVEY family from Deptford

Hello,
Assisting friend with his paternal family tree, surname HARVEY

Have paternal grandfather, Robert, birth certificate (1908) shows father as GEORGE HARVEY and ANNIE MARIA formerly COOKE.

Found that Robert's parents GEORGE aged 18 and ANNIE, 17, married 02 Jun 1895 Christ Church, Deptford with his father shown as a GEORGE too, occupation 'Flasher' (Drains and Sewers)

Working back from this, found GEORGE (junior) aged 12 with his parents GEORGE and JANE and younger siblings on C1891 St. Paul Deptford piece 494, folio 83 page 22 and C1881 aged 2 and C1901 aged 22, which is two years out if he was indeed 18 years of age when he married.

Located a birth registration Q1/1877 Greenwich 1d/935 as a possibility which would match age at marriage and also age shown on C1911.  His occupation on census as a  'Docker or Stevedore'

What is am now trying to locate is when George junior passed away - a possibility being Q1/1937 Greenwich 1d/1153 aged 61 years, and also his wife Annie Marie

That's either Greenwich Dec 1872 1d 1135 to Jane Hills (10.11.1872  Deptford St Nicholas)or
Medway Dec 1873 2a 731 to Jane Daley
The first he is a plate layer father Henry Harvey railway servant
Jane Hills  d of George late labourer
wit Edward Peach and Jane Richardson.
Looking at the censuses I think that first one may be right and his parents are Henry and Amelia Harvey nee Goodwin  born Lewisham and Eltham 1829 and 1832 ,son Alfred baptised 18.10,1867 Deptford St John born 9.7 Francis St no occupation listed.
The other possibility is George and Caroline Amelia Harvey both born 1824 Lewisham and it looks like Henry's brother but they don't have a son Alfred born 1867 which would fit with the 1881 census.

Hello Ciderdrinker, Many thanks your two emails:

- Many thanks and both look excellent possibilities of death registrations of George 1945 and his wife Annie Maria 1957. Will suggest to my friend to purchase certificates to confirm.

- Thanks also your efforts on info on George's father George 1853.  I too have found same info and feel that his marriage was to JANE HILLS in 1872.  Found she passed away in 1947 but unable to pin point George's demise as only so far tracked him until 1912 at Reginald Place Deptford, same abode as C1911.

- George senior's parents - Henry born 20 Dec 1828 (info on baptismal record) died 1916, married Amelia Goodwin 05 Feb 1849 and she died Q1/1870 and very quickly!  on 04 Apr 1870 he married Hannah Maria Spargoe (nee Lewington) a widow.

- Henry's parents John bc 1786 and Mary?.  Found C1841 (484/8/1) with John 55, Mary 30, John 16, Henry 13 and Sarah 6   ...

Hi, just found this from way back. Annie Maria Harvey (nee Cooke) was my grandmother and George Harvey was my grandfather though I never met him. According to my a Dad, their son Albert, they had fourteen children, some of the names I remember hearing are Tom ( who was a prisoner of war at Osaka in Japan, he lived with Annie after the war until she died) Ted, Ada, Benjamin ( who I believe died young) Arthur, Robert. I have a copy of Annie's death certificate, she died age 80 on 9th October 1957 at 25 Octavius Street Deptford of bladder cancer. I remember the house as a very young child, she had a black and white cat called Toby who had its own chair. My brother Richard who is 3 years older than me (I'm now 70) used to take me up to Deptford High Street. Fond memories. Hope this is of help to you. Geraldine
