Francis Edward Hunter - India nr Bareilly late 1800's
« on: Wednesday 01 January 14 12:06 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Can anyone point me in the direction of information on Francis Edward Hunter.  I have nothing other than he was father to Pearl M Hunter who married Frank Glover in Bareilly, Bengal, India on 23 July 1924.  Frank was stationed in India and both were about 22 when they married.  Pearl had baby Mavis Adeline Glover and came back to UK to live in Sheffield.  The Hunter family are purported to have been 'wealthy', so I wonder if he was a merchant - I can't find any military records for him.  Maybe East India co connection?  But not found anything.

Any info would be very gratefully received.

Many thanks

Val

Will watch this thread with interest.  My husband was born in Bareilly.  Depending on what you find , he could help with back ground information on the town.  Sandra

So far it looks as though Francis Edward Hunter was a bricklayers labourer in 1901 and 1911.  I'm not sure this is him as why would he go to India - will keep checking....

There was a red brick and tile factory in  Bareilly.  The hiuses were commonly built of red brick.  Sandra

It may be be that Francis Edward Hunter never went out to India, but his daughter did.
Many young English girls did go out as servants, domestics at that time,or looking for husbands.
The interesting fact is that Francis Hunters father was a master mariner so would have travelled extensively,in this case his wife and children were left behind in Lancs.
Still needs clarifying that Francis b1875 is the correct one.
