Jersey, St Martin’s – CORAM
« on: Wednesday 01 January 14 15:03 GMT (UK) »
I have a Jacob Coram b. 1837 from Kingsand, Cornwall who married Elizabeth ? from St Martin’s Jersey.

They had 8 children all born St Martin’s the first Jacob W b. 1864 up to Albert b. 1884.
Jacob Snr died between 1891 – 1901, but as he was a sailor might not have been on the island.

I’d be grateful for the date of marriage & Elizabeth’s maiden name.

Thank you for your assistance
Jacqui

The information you want should be pretty easy to find, the St Martin's registers have been transcribed well into the 19th century. I'm not sure if the Archive is open tomorrow or not but I'll be there some time next week and hopefully will find you some answers then.

I can add a little bit more.

In the "Burials for St. Martin", 19th Jan 1926, there is a burial for Elizabeth de Carteret Coram (their words), widow of Jacob and wife of Philipe Thomas Hamon. She was 88 years old.

She obviously re-married possibly between 1911 and 1926.

Thank you again, most kind. Very exotic sounding names :)

I saw that burial Stewart but was a little bit doubtful until I spotted this in 1911

Name    Age
Elizabeth Coram    60
Frank Coram    40
William Coram    31
Philip Harron    58 (boarder) image reads Hamon

She's being a little economical with the truth about her age but also puts herself down as a widow who was married for 47 years, spot on for a marriage in 1864, except that she wasn't 13 when she married!

Thanks again, I've noticed that on other occasions that normally women are very forgetful about their date of birth  :)
