Have checked the 1917 marriage and find parents as James Hay Petrie and Mary Ann Petrie nee Kerr. They married 21 Apr 1890 at Old Machar.
Cannot find any more information on parents, in particular James Hay Petrie snr.
I am starting to think my original request may have been not my family line (provided by other family members). I hoped Mary Ann Petrie nee Kerr would have been nee Hay.

The Hay connection must be through James Hay Petrie senior then? You say you cannot find anything on that man. The 1890 marriage certificate will name the parents of James & Mary. You should be able to trace the families back through the censuses. You may be able to find a link to Alexander Hay if you go back far enough. :)

Hi all ,

Looking at the 1901 Census I think James Hay Petrie was born c1861 Drumblade Aberdeenshire.
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XYTC-S55

As flst notes the 1890 marriage cert. should have parents details and ages of the bride and groom.

Was James Hay Petrie senior noted as deceased on the 1917 certificate ?
SP has a death for a James Hay Petrie 1916 , St Machar Aberdeen , born c1862.

;D Many thanks to ev and flst.
Found the connection. For those interested:Alexander Hay (parents and birth unknown) married Marjory Bruce and had Alexander (who came to Australia) and Marjory (known as Jane). Jane married George Kerr and had Mary Ann Kerr. Mary Ann Kerr married James Hay Petrie and had James Hay Petrie- he married Mary Kemlo Cruickshank Gorrod and had Hamish Petrie. Hamish and wife Hilda were the family that my grandparents visited in Aberdeen in the 1960's.
The first James Hay Petrie may have been given the Hay name because the parents' mothers' were both nee Hay.
Thanks to all.
Gary
ps Have found 3 Alexander Hays' buried at St Peters' dates 16 Mar 1842, 20 Dec 1843 and 25 Jul 1844- no other details. How do I find more information?

 Hi Gary

If you found the burials of the three A Hays at  deceasedonline.com then

for a relatively small fee (after registering) you can view details of the burials. I haven't been able

to find a free source.

Hi Gary

You mentioned that Alexander Hay born circa 1810 married Marjory Bruce in 1836. Given the children you have in 1841, have you considered that Alexander was on to possibly a second marriage?

Alexr Hay 30 Mason
Marjory Hay 30 b. Scotland
George Hay 10
Jean Hay 5
Alexander Hay 5months https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XY65-PRJ

Address: Love Lane Spittal, Old Spittals

The daughter Marjorie you mentioned was christened in 1838 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XY6P-64M

I would guess that Jane/Jean in 1841 may possibly be from first marriage? Also, baby Marjorie may not have lived to 1841? And then, you also have George aged 10...
