Who are you looking for elinga?

If you post some details, I am sure that someone on here will be able to help.

thanx Romilly
my great uncle was Pte Thomas Arnold Millar (200973) born circa 1898 in Stevenston Ayrshire,I know he signed up with the 52nd Lowland Brigade locally in Ayrshire (he lived in Dreghorn with his parents before the war) and he served with the Royal Scots Fusiliers "A" Coy 1st/4th Bt .
he was killed at the Second Battle of Gaza on 19.4.1917., he is buried in Gaza War Cemetery.
he is mentioned on the war memorial in dreghorn.
I asked about a FWR because according to their records his service record is there !
I just wanted to know as much about him as I could, so any help would be greatly appreciated!
regards
Elinga

There has been some unhappy customers from Forces War of late. I guess they might not have as much info as it appears.

Hi,

Are you aware that around 70% of WW1 records were destroyed in WW2?

But some WW1 Army service records and pension records are on Ancestry aren't they?

I don't have subs to that Site at present, - or the one that everyone has been talking about!

The Medal Index Cards that Giblet found are available on ancestry.  The ancestry images are colour scans as opposed to the B&W microfilm scans that are available on the National Archives site.

There is only one Thomas Millar Service Record for Ayrshire showing on ancestry, he was born c1897 and lived in Ardrossan when he signed up but he survived the war and there is a letter on the file from 1919 signed by him.

As Romilly said, the vast majority of WW1 Service Records were destroyed in WW2 and it is extremely unlikely that FWR would have anything different.  I suppose he may have been mentioned in a Regimental War Diary.
