Humford Woods swimming baths
« on: Friday 10 January 14 18:20 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,
I was talking about Humford woods to my son and mentioned the swimming baths that were there and he was incredulous, he thinks that I am telling him fibs, does anybody have any information about them or photographs.

Malcolm.

My grandfather lived in the free woods and me and my cousins used to walk up to swim at Humford woods.  We used to take a tractor inner tube to play with.  Think that would be late 50s or early 60s.

No lies!!!

Lots of Sites mention there being an open-air swimming pool there, - but I can't find any photos of it. Perhaps someone else on here will though.

Yes Malcommon. I have a photo of the Humford swimming baths. If you send an email address I can send it.  I will sort it out, and wait until I hear from you again, Dolly

Ooo, I wouldn't mind seeing a pic of the woods.  It's a long time since I lived up there so it would mean memories for me.  I was also wondering what happened in the free woods after my grandfather left in the late 60's.

Living in Blyth I always wanted to go there, it sounded so romantic, a swimming pool in the middle of the Woods ;) And in those hard-up days.
But I don't think there was a bus route there at the time.
It was easier to swim in the sea, or go to Tynemouth outdoor pool, bus was more regular.

Triciak. Your right there were no buses that went past the Woods, we as kids, if we were lucky would hitch a lift from the driver on the back of Woods pop van who went up that road very frequently. Romantic? well we did meet quite a few of the lads up there!

The woods are pretty much the same, if not a little worse for wear, but at the Bedlington end there is a place set out for barbecues.  also small play area, well that was a few year back.   Dollyn
