Would anyone be kind enough to look up a baptism for me in Cornwall? I am looking to find the parentage of Charity TREVARTHEN (or TREVARTON), who was born circa 1737 in Crowan.

Hello Trevor,

Thanks for taking the time to check for me. I have seen that entry in various transcriptions before.. I can only assume that the first name of the child was illegible on the original register. I shall follow your suggestion though, to see if the family history society can elaborate.

I'm really excited to see someone else researching the Trevarthen/Trevarton family.

I will be in touch, just making my mark so that I will get notification of postings on this topic.

But briefly my brick wall is establishing the correct William Trevarthen father of Daniel Trevarthen baptised Stoke Climsland 1748! From Daniel up I have a fair amount of information and am in contact with relatives in Australia, New Zealand, Devon and Cornwall.

Where do you fit in regarding the Trevarthen clan?

Hello Polly,

Yes, it is always nice to come across someone who shares a research interest! Charity Trevarthen / Trevarton (b.c.1736-d.1801) and her husband Daniel Rowe (b.c.1732) were my 6x great-grandparents. This Charity that I am looking to trace is via a direct maternal line, and she was a Crowan lady. I've explored some links to the William Trevarthen mentioned in the thread above, but the family does seem complex!

Hi Steven - I had a look at a copy of the original parish register and it looks as though some parts of it have been water damaged. The forename of William Trevarton's daughter is completely obliterated by the damage so no further leads there I'm afraid.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Do you think the Bishop's Transcripts would have survived at all, or is it too early a time period for them to even exist?

Hi Steven - according to the Cornwall Records Office catalogue there are BT's available for the period (1674-1750). Might be worth contacting CRO to see what condition the BT's are in?
