On 1900 US census have found a Lawrence Barry b 1873 Ireland census address given is USFS New York Naval Forces/Military & Naval. 

That census says he arrived in U.S. 1895 which may or may not be accurate. However, there are really several Lawrence Barrys the correct age so you'll need to do some more research to see if you can find the correct one.
