Looking for information on Andrew GORMAN & Catherine BRANNAN 1866
« on: Saturday 11 January 14 22:13 GMT (UK) »
Hey all,

Does anyone have any family information on Andrew Gorman b. 1866 whom married a Catherine Brannan. They had a daughter Catherine Gorman whom married into the Coyle family (Particularly James Coyle).
Unique as Andrew Gorman's mother is Elizabeth Brady (Braidy/Bready) my Great- Grand Aunt married a WILLIAM GORMAN IN LANARKSHIRE( AIRDRIE?) and James Coyle is a cousin on my Gran Coyle's side ( Agnes nee Coyle Vallely) WHOM LIVED IN Bathgate WEST LOTHIAN.

I have found an Andrew Gorman whom died in 1915 WWI in Gallipoli, Canakkale, Turkey and I am wondering if this is the same Andrew.

Any assistance appreciated,

Lorianne

Hi Lorraine

CWGC:
http://www.cwgc.org
Andrew GORMAN
Royal Scots Fusiliers, 1st/4th Bn.
Private #6128
KIA: 12 July 1915

Another database (but it doesn't state the source of the info)  adds  this soldier was:
Born Irvine, Ayrshire

There was an Andrew GORMAN born abt 1885 Irvine, who in 1901 was age 16 and a Brickwork Labourer living at 27 Glasgow Vennel in Irvine with his parents, James & Mary GORMAN, plus younger brothers James 14, David 10, Daniel 7

So if the man who died is proved to be  the  same fellow on the 1901 - does that mean you're looking for what became of your Andrew?

Cheers

I have Andrew Gorman birth abt 1886 in Longrigg. His father William was born Campsie, Dunbartonshire abt 1860 died  abt.1920. Elizabeth Brady (Bready) b. 1864-1924. They married
1882 New Monkland Parish, Lanarkshire Co., Scotland.

I know he married Catherine Brannan 1889-1980.

If he did was not killed in Greece WWI on July 12 1915- where did he go??? Or when did he die???

Hi Lorraine,

When and where was the last  definite 'sighting' you have of your Andrew?

Hi Lorraine

From the Scotland's People Index searches:

A Catherine GORMAN other surname BRANNAN age 68, died 1957, Registered New Monkland
An Andrew GORMAN age 51, died 1938, Lanarkshire

It's your Andrew  who died 1938 - registered in Dalziel. I had some credits left over on SP, they'd been there a while getting stale  ;D  so had a look at the cert for you!

PM me, with your email addy and I'll send it

He died in hospital, but their usual address was 46 Airdriehill Square, Whiterigg - overall,  he didn't stray far from the where he was born (and family at 41 Airdriehill in 1891!)

Cheers

I was raised in this area and know the families concerned, Gorman, Brady, Brannan.
Oddly enough Airdriehill Square is not in Airdrie, Airdriehill Sq is actually the village of Whiterigg.
William Gorman Jnr. was in my class at Whiterigg school, his father William Gorman Snr. worked beside my father. I have a photo of Airdriehill Sq. a photo of the young men of the Sq. to include Gorman & Brannan in the 1930s plus a photo of the Tenants list of the Sq. including 3 Gorman families. A photo of Airdriehill Shamrock Football team who won the Scottish Juvenile Cup in 1912.
with Willie Gorman playing that day.
The Square and all of Whiterigg was demolished and all tenants moved to the nearby village of Plains where descendants still live today.
If this is of interest I will scan them and send tomorrow.

James.
