Have you tried looking for any of them on the 1939 index?

Correction: The younger of the two Nicholas' (Nicholas Robert 1828-1900) was the one time prisoner and the spouse of Mary Ann Cocklin from Ireland, (they had 4 children) and then Sarah Ann Stephens. Mary was removed from Whitechapel to Bethnal Green (c.1867) under the Poor Laws. Nicholas Robert takes 5 years off his age, over the years (as his 2nd wife is a lot younger than him). On the 1871 census, he already has 2 children with Sarah Ann... one of whom is 3 years old!! Nicholas b. 1797 baptized 1804, was the son of Nicholas Purdye and Rebecca Read.
