QUEEN'S COLORADO?
« on: Tuesday 14 January 14 04:35 GMT (UK) »
I've come across Queen's Colorado in the 1901 Irish Census.  I've Googled it to no avail.  Was there such a place or is a mistaken translation of the written "Queens County"?

Just checking, is that what it clearly looks like on the actual Form A return as opposed to the website's transcription (I'm assuming it's shown against the column for "where Born")?

If you can give us the references we might be able to help but difficult to say for sure without seeing the entry.

Is this on Ancestry that you are looking at the 1901 census and seeing "Queen's Colorado"? If so, it is a known problem (with at least the 1911 census) which they have been made aware of, do not seem to comprehend and have not yet fixed.

Sorry for the delay in responding.

Thanks for pointing out the Ancestry.com link.  "Queen's Colorado" also turned up in Google searches (but without the definition), but now that I've re-examined it following your post, they're all from Ancestry.

You've set my mind at rest....I thought Ireland had been invaded too!

The error occurs as Queen's County is often written as Queen's Co and our abbreviation is taken by the Ancestry system as Colorado... should have been fixed long ago as it's been a glitch for a while.
