BINGLE Immigrants to Australia from Ireland
« on: Sunday 19 January 14 06:02 GMT (UK) »

We are hoping that someone could help us with information on the Bingle Immigrants from Ireland to Australia around the 1860's to 1870's.
We found the reference on Trove in a newspaper article referring to the Bingle Immigrants who came from Ireland to Rockhampton in Queensland, Australia in 1865.

We would like to learn more on why they came to Australia also if there is a website with an Index of names of people who were part of this scheme.
The scheme appears to be encouraging the Irish Immigrants out here for work in the area.
Thank you for your help,  Christmack

I've never heard of this before, are you sure it isn't "single" (unmarried) rather than "Bingle"?

Gaffy,

You are correct as I have just checked Trove again and it is definitely "Single" although Trove has transcribed it more than once as "Bingle". You can clearly read that it is single when you go through each of the newspaper articles.

Thank you so much for solving our dilemma, Christmack
