Campbell Paterson
« on: Tuesday 21 January 14 21:46 GMT (UK) »
Campbell Paterson was born in Glasgow on 30 July 1851, son of Robert Paterson and Agnes Campbell. His father started out as a vinegar merchant, and diversifed into othe condiments, sauces and so on. Campbell joined the family business, Robert Paterson and Sons, and in 1876 the company was catapulted to fame when it launched Camp Coffee on an unsuspecting world.

According to the web site of the Fisherman's Chapel in Jersey, there is in the chapel a memorial to Campbell Paterson, founder of Camp Coffee.

I have tried the Jersey Heritage web site, but a search there drew a blank.

Can anyone advise where I might find out when, where and how Campbell Paterson died, whom he was married to at the time, where he is buried, when he came to Jersey, and anything else about his sojourn in Jersey?

There is a brief mention on this website:
http://jersey.typepad.com/the_fishermans_chapel/

But it simply mentions Campbell, but adds the fact that he died in 1927?

Yes. Thank you. You will see from my opening post that I got the information that he died in Jersey from the web site of the Fisherman's Chapel, which is the one you have also found.

Apologies! ;D

But you also said you wanted to know when he died, and hadn't mentioned the year.
So I thought you might have missed it?!

Better to be told something you know, rather than not being told at all?! ;D

I remember the factory in Glasgow, and the aroma, facing Glasgow Green, Greendyke Street maybe?

Indeed.

I would like to know the day and date, place and cause of death. In particular, was he resident in Jersey or just visiting?
