Marriage of Samuel Aggas & Elizabeth ?
« on: Wednesday 22 January 14 17:51 GMT (UK) »
Subsequent to my earlier posting today, I am trying to verify the marriage of Samuel Aggas & Elizabeth around 1828 in the Redenhall area.  Samuel & Elizabeth Aggas appear on the 1841 census living in Redenhall with 5 children - Samuel (12), James (10), George (8), Walter (6) & Adam (4).  The family also appears on the 1851 census which indicates children all born in Harleston.  Can anybody help me find a marriage of Samuel & Elizabeth?

Hi

Can't find any thing on the Norfolk Marriage Index 1801-1837, maybe they hopped over the border into Suffolk, Harleston is very close.

regards

Strange! looks like the same marriage.

There's this marriage for a Robert Ward and Elizabeth Tibbenham:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/27C8-Y58

and these baptisms:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/N6BS-CNY

same date:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/J9KR-JV8

Samuel, George and James all baptised the same day:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/J3YG-GB7

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NBYD-4MZ

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/J3YG-P8F

and then:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/N6B1-RRS

note the middle name

Could Elizabeth Tibbenham have married Robert Ward and then paired up with Samuel Aggas sometime between 1833 and 1836 then married Samuel in 1842?

Looking at the marriage certificate Elizabeth gave her name as Aggas then this was crossed out and Ward was entered

Elizabeth Aggas was 52 on the 1851 census, so born c1799

There is a baptism of Elizabeth dau of James and Elizabeth Ward 27 Sept 1797 in Kirstead
James Ward married Elizabeth Mortimer c1794 Kirstead.

There is also a marriage in Kirstead of Robert Tibbenham and Elizabeth Hanworth of Hedenham 2 Nov 1798.

Maybe their respective spouses died and Robert Tibbenham and Elizabeth Ward (snr) got together, I cannot find any evidence of this.

That's just amazing candrjm (& yokel) - I think you've cracked it - in my opinion, yes Robert Ward & Elizabeth Tibbenham produced at least the first five children (John, Charlotte, Samuel, James & George), then Walter Aggus Ward was born 'out of wedlock' (despite father's name being given as Ward and probably the same for the youngest son Adam Aggas born in 1837 - I'm applying for the birth certificate which will give us both father's & mother's names.
May I ask candrjm where you found the baptism entry for Elizabeth Tibbenham?
Thanks again
