i dont know orton at all and didnt know it excisted till now i live in darlington durham

If you look up Cumbria archives  + wills you will find an on line catalogue where you can search for George Knowles . There are letters of Administration 1837 for George Knowles Husbandman of Orton. He,d probably died without making a will. You need to contact Carlisle archives to get a copy ( £11) and you could ask what kind of info it would contain before ordering. Sue

i have just found a site which stated george was a farmer and yeoman and beside his name was risebank orton but no other info on him

thank you i will contact them i have also found him in cumbrian arcives i have put on her what i found i think it was the name of the farm but not sure
