help to find father of joseph knowles

George isn't mentioned as deceased when Joseph marries but then it doesn't always so that doesn't really help

could i get a marriage  cert for elizabeth ? iv looked on family search site and all it doesnt give info on where george came from or his age

i do believe george and elizabeth owned a farm would this help in find out more on george

It's too old (pre 1837) to get a marriage certificate unfortunately.  The marriage will be in the local parish records.

Only other thing I can think, which again doesn't really help with his origins, is do you know where Elizabeth is buried?  They may have been buried together and cemetery records may have some information.

Or if you are feeling flush you could take a punt and order that death certificate for 1850.  But that would mean he is alive in 1841 so hold fire on that!

i believe george died in 1837 westmoreland and also believe they had a farm which joseph took over would there have been a will whenhe died if so how would i access it

Did Joseph marry Isabella?  If we could find out the name of the farm or location it might help.
In 1881 he is a farmer of 78 acres.  Area on the census looks likes Grimesmoor?
Do you live in the area - or know Orton at all?

The will of Joseph Knowles late of Sunbiggin farmer died 18 May 1884.  Sons George & Isaac farmers were the executors.

yes joseph wife was isabell and did have 78 acres but if that will was georges will why wasnt he in the census,s even though the sons mentioned  are sons of elizabeth and george
