my great grandfather
« on: Friday 24 January 14 22:27 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for information regarding my great grandfather Charles Kisky who came to England in 1841 from Prussia. He was married in 1847 and his marriage certificate states that his father was Peter Kisky (deceased). I have anecdotal information that he was a travelling journeyman from Dusseldorf.

Charles Kisky is in the 1861 census, as Charles Kesky, like the rest of his family, from Germany, cabinet maker.
Charles Kesky   age 40
Mary A Kesky   age 39
William Kesky             9
Louisa Kesky           7
Emily Kesky          10/12 mths
Hope this helps.

Hello and welcome.

There is an 1851 marriage, rather than 1847, to Anne Brown with father Peter ( deceased )

Is that the one you have?

Hi,

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

I don't like to question you, but are you sure about the dates you mention? I found this,

England, Alien Arrivals, 1810-1811, 1826-1869

Ship:  Ocean
Bound from:  Rotterdam
4th November 1849
Charles KISKI
Cabinet M
Native Country:  Prussia

This could be Charles in 1851, transcribed and looks like WISKY on the image.

1851  HO107/1483  f.154  p.65  Westminster St James
6 Little Windmill Street

Charles WISKY    21    Lodger    Cabinet maker    Germany

Hopes this helps a little,
Regards,
Daisy

Thank you all for your replies.  It is some time since I looked on the Roots Chat Website - my Great Grandfather Charles did come to England via Rotterdam - it is his life before his emigration to England that I am trying to trace but because we have no knowledge of where in Prussia he lived we have not been able to proceed. He certainly married and lived in St. Pancras and his son Henry Charles was my paternal Grandfather  although he died before I was born.

Thank you for your replies regarding my Great Grandfather Charles Kisky - I now believe that he may have lived in Bad Kreuznach in the lower Rhine area of Germany before he travelled to England on 4th November 1849 via Rotterdam and settled in St Pancras in London and married Margaret Ann Brown at St. Pancras Church on 22nd May 1867.  Is there anyone in Bad Kreuznach who knows anything about my Kisky family - I have record of another Charles Kisky from this town who emigrated to Australia and lived in Surry Hills but he is not my Great Grandfather
