Hi Norma!

Thank you so much for your help! I need to examine my Tree to see if there are any familiar names.

My Murrays ended up in Kelso after a spell in Hawick (they were weavers until my GGrandfather James became a Master Baker) and I do have a death certificate relating to his child Violet Naismith Murray who died as an Infant. She is in Lair 50.

I wonder if her father is buried in same place? He was James Murray of 24, Horsemarket and he died on 29/10/1918 of Influenza and Pleurisy.

As far as the War Memorial is concerned I had a photo of it somewhere but can't find it. I was looking for John Richardson Murray and I swear the War Memorial stated that he died at Ypres. However, my later research finds that he died in The Balkans!

Thanks again for your kind help.

Regards

Yvonne

Hi Yvonne,

Sorry your James Murray & Violet don't have a headstone in Rosebank Cemetery.

Hi Again! Thanks for your reply.

Does this mean that no one was buried in Old Parish Kirkyard after a certain date? My mother seems to think some family buried there from 20th Century but perhaps she is mistaken.

I came to a funeral - of my mother's cousin Jean Gladstone - a few years ago and seem to remember a car journey from Old Parish Church and the cemetery. Would that be a 'new' site?

Regards

Yvonne

Hi Yvonne,

The oldest headstone in Rosebank is 1870.

They were still having burials in The Old Parish. Your James Murray  may be in that one but there is no headstone there for him either.
